The Barriball Carriage House

The Chagrin History Center is excited to share details about the upcoming building of the Barriball Carriage House! The Barriball Carriage House will house our 1957 Chevy police car replica and original 1949 Chagrin Falls firetruck. The space will include exhibit and educational areas to further display the history of Chagrin, including the Chagrin Falls Police Department and Chagrin Valley Fire Department history. Help us raise funds for flag holders so we can honor our veterans!

Please join the Historical Society along with Evergreen Wreaths; Chagrin Falls American Legion Post 383; Chagrin Falls VFW Post 12067; and the Village of Chagrin Falls in honoring our veterans who are buried at Evergreen Hill Cemetery. By donating to the flag holder fund, you are helping us purchase over 500 bronze flag holders which will be placed at each veterans’ grave in the cemetery. Donations can be sent to the Village of Chagrin Falls.

Saving Henry Church Rock

A little more than a year ago, some descendants of the Church family, along with a few other individuals including Ruth and John, formed a committee to try and stabilize/restore the iconic folk sculpture created in 1885 by Henry Church, Jr. and previously known as a Squaw Rock. The sculpture has been vandalized over the years and exhibits general deterioration due to weathering and lichen growth, and the general neglect of the Cleveland Metroparks. In Memory of Nancy Martt

In loving memory of Nancy Martt who was a talented local artist, one of the founders of the Valley Art Center and also a supporter of the Chagrin Falls Historical Society & Museum. We have many Nancy Martt pieces in our art collection. We will do a pop-up exhibit of Nancy’s work in our Bo Burr Community Room starting later this week. Stay tuned for more info.

Back in the Classrooms!

The Historical Society has a wonderful relationship with Chagrin Falls Schools. We have been able to teach lessons within the classroom and host field trips to the museum. During the 2020/2021 school year, John and Ruth were able to teach the high school U.S. history and Government classes via Zoom. Ohio History Fund Grant awarded to Chagrin Falls Historical Society!

The Chagrin Falls Historical Society & Museum is pleased to announce that we have received a $3,700 grant from the Ohio History Connection which will allow us to digitize years 1894 through 1903 of The Exponent. We previously received this grant to digitize years 1874 through 1893. The Exponent, was the sole newspaper for Chagrin Falls and surrounding communities in eastern Cuyahoga, western Geauga, and northern Portage Counties from 1874–1899.
